So, I suppose it’s no secret that COVID really kicked the crap out of all our lives. As an artist who needs people to be able to look at my work, UP CLOSE and personal, existentially it was a double whammy. After months of creative paralysis, in 2021, I finally starting working on pieces that somehow related to the new frustrating world we were trying to live in, and I was very happy when the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery sent out a call for such works, for a juried national show to be entitled “Confined.” I was even more gratified and honoured when my piece “This Tea is CANCELLED” was selected for the cover of the exhibition catalogue. I shipped my work, then sat back and looked forward to January 2022, when I would finally be able to stand beside my art, and discuss it with others, and yes - soak in the admiration! Then COVID delivered the next kick in the gut with its Delta variant, which cancelled our exhibition opening and all those opportunities to receive acknowledgement for my work. At the time, I knew I was disappointed, but I don’t think I realized just how FINISHED I actually was. Two years later, as I’m finally coming out of it, I think I better understand how low I actually sunk. But I hope I’m over that now! So please join me this fall as I start to climb back out of the COVID hole, and move beyond the minimal creative work I’ve been doing for the last few years to start showing my work again! Stay tuned….
