This piece represents a fond memory of the Tuesday in late February or early March - the day before the beginning of Lent - when we would bring out the Aunt Jemima pancake mix after school and have BREAKFAST FOR DINNER! It seemed such a novelty to eat pancakes at night, and of course the religious significance of the tradition was totally lost on us under a generous drizzle of syrup. I still like to do it every year (but these days I’m high-falutin’ and make my own pancake batter.)
